nextdimension-pro-octo-coreYes, this is a laptop, or flextops as Next Computing like to call them, although you may not want to actually put this on your lap.

The flextop is powered by two Quad-core IntelXeon 5300 processors which only use 100 watts, down form the 160 watts of the desktop version.

I just hope you have loads of film clips to store on this machines maximum of twelve of the world’s first 7200-RPM 160GB notebook hard drive, and with 24GB of ram you shouldn’t have any problems playing those high def movies. Plus with 4 PCI/PCI-e slots, Firewire and Gigabit Ethernet you can even use this flextop as a media server.

“NextComputing sees the use of the Quad-Core Intel(R) Xeon(R) Processor 5300 Series as a crucial component of the technology mix that keeps us ahead of the game in the datacom and telecom industries,” said Bob Labadini, President and CTO of NextComputing. “We will continue to support the newest multi-core processing technology going forward.”

All the components within the system are open standards, and modular, making it truly a plug and play machine that can be configured and reconfigured to suit the needs of the end user or OEM.

It’s a good job these machine come with a handle as they weight 20 pounds, you should be able to see these machines next month at Interop Las Vegas. No price have been released yet, but I don’t think they are going to be cheap.
